Do the Work Then Get Out of the Way

We’re gettin a lil deep today kids. All Deepak Chopra and tao te ching deep.

Let’s start with the Tao. The most simple translation of the title is The Book of the Way.

From the back cover of Stephen Mitchell’s translation “it provides advice that imparts balance and perspective, a serene and generous spirit, and teaches us how to work for the good with effortless skill that comes from being in accord with the Tao -the basic principle of the universe.

… not to be confused with the nightclub :)

Chapter 9 of the tao

Fill your bowl to the brim
and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife
and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security
and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people's approval
and you will be their prisoner.

Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.

I feel like many of us have trained ourselves to be distracted….conditioned to let our attention drift to someone else’s agenda ‘Care about other people’s approval and you’ll be there prisoner”

How many likes did we get, how many story views, how many subscribers, what did some say about us ??

We look to outside sources to validate our self worth.

I’ve said it before THAT is a recipe for a shit life which I learned the hard way.

Our lives are a manifestation of where we put our energy.

Focusing on the OUTCOMES and how we can control them keeps us running in circles, where it’s REALLY hard to be content, or peaceful or joyful

Where can you let go of the outcome? Where can you practice doing the work and walking away? Maybe it’s in your actual work, maybe something physically you’ve being trying to achieve, a business you’re creating or a project you’ve been working on.

Give your absolute effort and then… Let. it. Go. Until you come back to work on it again of course :)

Getting back to Deepak, he sums it up in four words that I feel have crystal clear meaning.

Pursue Excellence and Ignore Success

Can I challenge you to do the work and then let it go?

Remember It’s gonna be a practice, not a perfection.

I hope you have a blast on the journey ballsy babes!!
